Stamford U3A Local History Group

Tea and cake in the Priest’s House garden

On the 10th August we hosted the Stamford U3A Local History Group so they could follow a new history tour of the village. They received tea and cake in the Priest’s House garden, and we hope to repeat this self guided tour for villagers in the future.

Although we are planning to commence our talks in October you may be interested in the Collyweston Historical & Preservation Societies’ talk on Monday 6th September, arrive at 19.15 at the Collyweston Village Hall. The speaker Linda Ball is talking on ‘Grey Friars or White Friars. In search of Stamford’s Friaries’. The approximately 1 hour talk starts at 19.35 and the cost is £5.

Recently, I was lucky enough to be involved in the Collyweston Palace dig but unfortunately, traces of foundations still proved allusive. Although there were plenty of small finds nothing that could be linked to the Tudor period was identified. It is hoped that permission might be granted to investigate a more promising area next year.
